Having to give up the last planned parts of our annual vacation in September 2024 due to Hurricane Helene, we decided to complete that trip as a trip to celebrate our first anniversary in 2025.
We left for Evansville, IN after work on Thursday February 27th where we spent the night. After checking out of our hotel in Evansville, IN we stopped at the local Meijer to feed Ranay’s newly found addiction to the store.
After Meijer, we stopped to have lunch at the local McAlister’s. The walls of this location were plastered with pictures of the movie, A League of Their Own. Close investigation of one photo of Tom Hanks, Madonna & Rosie O’Donnell near the door as we left, a small print credit for the photo included: A League of Their Own, Filming, Bosse Field, Evansville, 1991. Was this field close by? It was. We went to find it. Upon arrival, Paul found a gate into the stadium open and he walked in. As the stadium is still in use for the local minor league baseball team, the Evansville Otters, the team offices were just inside the gate. Paul walked into the offices as asked if we could walk the stadium. The front office staff admitted it happened all the time and that we could go and do whatever we wanted but had to stay off the field. So we did…..
But, this was not why we went to Evansville in the first place. That was a bonus find. We went to Evansville to see the house used as Roseanne’s house on the show as well as the Lobo Lounge – the bar from the show. Even though Roseanne was based in the fictional town of Lanford, IL, producers of the show had roots in Evansville. This is why the house and the name of the Lobo was used in the show.
After seeing the Roseanne sights, it was time to get on the road and head for the suburbs of Chicago, specifically, Deerfield, IL. We wanted to see his house:
We spent the night at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield, IL. We checked out in the morning and took the less than five minute trip over to the Bundy house.
We left Deerfield, IL and started to head to Florence, KY where we’d spend the night before heading home…and to visit Buffalo Bob’s, the restaurant we found and loved on our way to Detroit in September 2024. The trip took us through Gary, IN so we stopped to visit the childhood home of Michael Jackson & the entire Jackson Family.
First Anniversary is now history. On to the second anniversary…..
